* Can I sit together with my friends, family, or colleagues?
During checkout (on the standard website, not mobile site), there will be a question on "Table group". Enter a keyword and pass on to other people whom you wish to sit with. When they checkout they can enter same keyword to indicate their preference. Any keyword can be used, such as "Tan AK Family", "NCSV Batch 25" or "PwC Team Red".
When we assign table seating, we will do our best to keep groups seated together in one table (a group of exactly 10 will make this easier). We will still try very much to keep individual registrations together. We strongly recommend that families be registered in a single order, i.e. please do not register your children or toddlers separately.
* Is there an early bird discount?
Yes, and it is open to all (not limited to only Singaporeans). When registering, choose the early bird tickets. Availability of these tickets will end on 2/18.
* Is there a vegetarian meal option?
Yes. Please check "Yes" to the request vegetarian meal during checkout (on the website when viewed on a desktop web browser; mobile users, please email in your request). You will be seated with others who request such a meal and we will arrange with the restaurant to substitute the menu with vegetarian options.
* Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
There are no ID nor minimum age requirements. However, we require that children and toddlers be seated and accompanied by at least one supervising adult. Alcohol purchased at the restaurant must only be consumed by adults of at least 21 years of age who will be required to show an appropriate ID.
* Why isn't the event date closer to the actual date of the Lunar New Year?
Historically, we know there are many members who do travel back home to Singapore to celebrate the Lunar New Year with family. By having the event later, they also get to celebrate with their friends and colleagues in the Bay Area! It also helps that restaurant availability and pricing is better after the peak period at the start of the Lunar New Year.
* What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Zen is in Millbrae, which was chosen in part based on our survey where we found about a third preferred the event in SF, a third in East Bay, and a third in the South Bay. Thus, Millbrae turned out to be the most central location. It is right next to San Francisco Airport, so your options are to fly in, take a Caltrain or BART to the Millbrae station, or use the US-101 or I-280 highways. See map on the side panel.
You may also want to utilise ride-sharing (i.e. Uber/Lyft) or share a car via a rental car service (i.e. ZipCar). These have been options used in past years by some attendees. If you would like to see if any other SingaporeConnect members can help with a carpool, we suggest that you post in our Facebook Group.
* What can I bring into the event?
As this is a family-friendly event, please, no weapons, alcohol, and such. Due to the restaurant's hygiene policy and for the safety of the other guests, we also ask that you please do not smoke nor bring in your pets.
You are welcome to bring in hong baos (red packets) to decorate the table or give to the lion dancers, and to dress festively for the Chinese New Year!
* Can I pay at the door with cash?
Yes, but at the last-minute price and subject to availability.
To streamline the check in flow, our preference is for you to register and pay in advance, with a credit/debit card, via our online registration system. You can purchases all the way till an hour after the event starts, even at the door (if there are still seats available) using your smartphone, or perhaps a friend's smartphone.
If you would like to pay cash at the door, the Last-Minute ticket (any age, if available) of $65 each can be paid in cash at the door.
* How will the transaction appear on my credit card statement?
The charge on your statement will appear as "Brown Paper Tickets", or BPT. If you have any questions about charges, that you think you may have incurred due to this event, please contact the organiser first before your credit card issuer or bank. We will prefer to resolve this with you directly as involving the bank will involve additional time to handle their inquiries and may result in transaction charges on our end.
* What's the transfer or refund policy?
You can generally get a full refund within 12 hours of purchase directly from the site. After that please contact the organiser, we will usually accommodate refunds 30 days prior to the event, i.e. Feb 3, 2018. Refunds after that are solely at the organiser's discretion. We will in general only refund if tickets have been sold out and we have a waitlist of attendees who will purchase the tickets immediately after the refund.
You could also consider transferring the tickets, perhaps offer them to a friend or colleague? Your tickets can be transfer easily to a friend if you choose "Mobile delivery", and you can text the ticket to your friend.
Please refrain from contacting your credit card issuer or bank to request that the transaction be refunded, as this will incur a transaction charge on our end.
