SingaporeConnect is a social organisation in the Bay Area. We organise a variety of events for our members to mix and mingle with each other to build connections and friendships.
NUS Overseas Colleges (NOC) is an enterprise within the National University of Singapore. They have a mission to provide NUS students with education and experience in leading entrepreneurial and academic hubs around the world.
A group of 27 NUS students are on a 2-week study trip to Silicon Valley, part of a 7-month full-time internship programme, called iLEAD (innovative Local Enterprise Achiever Development). It starts with exposure to Singapore's entrepreneurial scene and concludes with this 2-week trip. We felt the students would benefit greatly from exposure to a variety of Singaporean friends and professionals in the Bay Area.
We are jointly organising a mixer with these iLEAD students. Light refreshments and drinks will be served. The Merlion Restaurant in Cupertino has generously agreed to open early for this event before the start of dinner. All SingaporeConnect Members and Members from affiliated organisations are welcome.
More about the iLEAD programme
The overseas study trip aims to challenge the students in developing business ideas through a series of activities, which is first triggered in the start-up validation camp followed by visits to a wide spectrum of companies, from start-ups to multinational corporations. The students will get to interact with mentors, start-ups CEOs and their employees where they can leverage on their insights and experiences to improve on their business ideas.
Through these series of activities, the students will get to:
Gain knowledge on how start-ups are formed and the challenges entrepreneurs face via networking sessions;
Have a better grasp of the roles played by multinational corporations;
Forge links with like-minded students at local universities;
Appreciate the importance of supporting industries that makes the entrepreneurial ecosystem tick;
Be inspired to be more entrepreneurial through a multitude of interactions with enterprising and innovative companies and personnel.
At the end of the trip, the students should gather a better understanding of the various entrepreneurial aspects in Silicon Valley and through these experiences, they are encouraged to adopt and adapt some of the new found knowledge back in Singapore.
